Plant Stores of the District

Dc planty explorations.jpeg

The idea is pretty simple: I’m going to every store that sells indoor houseplants in Washington, DC. Why? Because anxiety is at the max right now, and it’s soothing for me to look at plants. Also I’ve recently discovered that it’s specifically helpful to leave the house and get out in a new environment, especially one with plants and sunlight.

Here’s my list in no particular order:*

*If you think I’ve missed a store, let me know by filling out the form below! I’m trying to keep it local but would be open to sharing larger chains if there is interest in those, too.

Some of these are stores I’ve been to before, but many I haven’t. I’m just sort of, going to stores when I can. I’m not announcing any visits or coming with any questions. I’m just going to the stores to relax. This is also an excuse for me to highlight some local businesses and compiling a comprehensive list of my recommended planty places to shop in the Washington DC area. I keep everything in a spreadsheet because I’m like that and it helps me organize my thoughts. Some of the things I’m tracking are: plant selection, pricing, accessibility, staff friendliness, etc.

Where do I want to go with this? I’m not totally sure, but I have some ideas that involve an illustrated map and/or a guidebook of sorts? We’ll see. For now it’s just a series of blog posts with some personal feedback based on points I think would be helpful. I already have plans to do a Maryland and Virginia section, too! Be patient with me while I figure out this blog, thing. It helps me to write things out and I always have more to say than a caption can handle…so…here we go!
